The PeerStream 5 Peer-2-Peer Relay Server is a special streaming option that accesses an existing streming server like the PeerStream 5 A/V Streaming Server. This optional solution keeps the traffic on your server systems low and avoids "server full" messages on client side by peering existing streams through a distributed network. Here the connected clients act as servers too and forward the data to other client applications. The only thing that is needed on client side is a small Windows™-plug-in that is available for free. After installing it PeerStream 5 Peer-2Peer Relay Server URLs of type pstream:// are recognized automatically. When a user clicks such a link the plugin recognizes the format of the stream automatically and invokes the correct player application. Now this client host becomes part of the P2P-network: it provides the streamed data to other clients that access the same P2P network. The PeerStream 5 distributed streaming network is a enhanced Peer-to-Peer network. Here the "peers" are relaying the stream data from the PeerStream 5 Peer-2-Peer Relay Server. These client peers do not know anything about each other, nor do they store any information or files for each other. The PeerStream 5 clients do only distribute the stream data as long as a user is listening or viewing a stream. If the client disconnects connected clients are redirected to other peers automatically without any interruption.
